CILEx Pro Bono Award

Every year CILEx and CILEx Pro Bono Trust seek out an outstanding member of CILEx who is committed to, and can demonstrate excellence in legal pro bono and voluntary work. Those who do pro bono are a modest bunch so the search is tough and we need help but every year we are humbled by the dedication of our amazing members..

Are you a CILEx Member who has done pro bono work? Do you know a CILEx Member who has done pro bono work? If so, please nominate yourself or that person you know for the CILEx Pro Bono Award.

Generously sponsored by Kings Court Trust, the CILEx Pro Bono Award recognises the dedication and commitment of an outstanding individual who, in addition to their daily work, has contributed to the community through giving their time without charge to help others by providing work of a legal nature.

The judges look for someone who has given generously of their time to undertake difficult, socially or morally important cases, to work for charities, pro bono legal help groups, voluntary organisations or the community.

The Award is important because not only does it recognise the work of the individual award winner but it also highlights the work being done by so many members every single day. So, please, if you know a suitable candidate do put them forward.

Trafford Thrive Pro Bono Networking Event

Image of word VolunteerOne of our missions is to scotch the old chestnut that pro bono is to be seen as a ‘bad’ thing because it is only lawyers who do it.

Leaving aside the false logic, it is untrue. According to data from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, an estimated 15.2 million people volunteer at least once a month in the UK.

In Trafford, motivated by the 30th National Volunteering Week in June, Thrive Trafford and Trafford Council have developed the Thrive Pro Bono Bank. This enables local professionals to commit some of their time to sharing their expertise with the voluntary sector and others.

Thrive will be hosting a networking event on 11th September at Sale Point, 126-150 Washway Road in Sale between 5pm and 7pm for professionals interested in joining the Pro Bono Bank.

For a good exposition of why this is such a good idea read this post by Dan Sodergren and click here for more details including how to join and how to register.
